Find the equation of the parabola whose focus is (4,0) and the directix x = -4.

The focus (4,0) lies on the x axis, the axis of the parabola is the x axis. The equation of the parabola is either y2 = 4ax or y2 = -4ax. Since the directix is x = -4, the parabola is of the form y2 = 4ax, where a = 4.

Equation of the parabola is y2 = 16x

y2 = 16x.
