Explain the movement of water by apoplast and symplast in roots to reach vascular bundles.

Due to loosely packed cortical cells, the water in root hair cells is transported by apoplasts.

The inner boundary of roots contains casparian strips in the endodermis. These strips are impermeable to water.

Hence, water is redirected to the cells through regions where casparian bands are absent.

The water then moves through symplasts, i.e. through interconnected protoplasts of the cells to reach the xylem.
