Resolving power of a microscope can be defined as:
a quantity that characterizes the ability of optical instruments to produce separate images of two points of an object that are close to each other.
It depends on the Diameters of the objective so that they are able to increase their light gathering capacity. And also on the light being used for observation so that it does not get diffaracted beyond recognition.
