Bacteriophage is the virus that infects bacteria. It does not harm humans or even plants.
There are different types of diseases such as bacterial diseases, viral diseases, protozoan diseases, diseases caused by parasitic worms.
Diseases caused by bacteria
DISEASE
MODE OF TRANSMISSION
Tuberculosis (Mycobacterium tuberculosis)
- Through air, dust or the sputum of an infected person
Cholera (Vibrio cholerae)
- Contaminated water, food and drinks, spread by flies
Tetanus (Clostridium tetani)
- Through cuts or wounds in the skin
- enters through the blood into the spinal cord
Syphilis (Treponema pallidum)
- Sexually transmitted
- close contact
Diphtheria (Corynebacterium diphtheriae)
- Droplet infection while coughing and sneezing, contact
Typhoid (Salmonella typhi)
- Contaminated water, milk, through flies
Whooping Cough (Haemophilus pertussis)
- Contact, droplet
- infection of throat
Pneumonia (Diplococcus pneumoniae)
- Contact or by air
Leprosy (Mycobacterium leprae)
- Contact, highly contagious
Gonorrhoea (Neisseria gonorrhoea)
- Sexual contact
Diseases caused by protozoa
DISEASE
MODE OF TRANSMISSION
Malaria (Plasmodium falciparum)
- Female Anopheles mosquito acts as a carrier
Amoebic dysentery or Amoebiasis (Entamoeba histolytica)
- Through food and water contaminated by flies, through faeces of an infected person
Diseases caused by parasitic worms
DISEASE
MODE OF TRANSMISSION
Ascariasis (Ascaris lumbricoides)
- Through soil, food and water contaminated with eggs of female worm
- Flies act as carriers
Taeniasis (Taenia solium)
Consumption of infected pork and beef
