Expert Answer
Newton's second law of motion is description of force acting on a body . It helps us to define the force
Statement of Newton's second law is as follow
The rate of change of momentum of a body is directly proportional to the applied force and
takes place in the direction in which the force acts.
takes place in the direction in which the force acts.
Rate of change of momentum is product of mass and acceleration and acceleration is rate of change of velocity.
Hence when a body moves with constant velocity , it will continue to move with constant velocity.
It will come to rest only when external force acting on it in opposite direction of motion.
Also velocity will be increased only when external force acting on it in same direction of motion.
Force F ( m × a )
where m is mass and a is acceleration .
F = k ( m × a )
where k is constant of proportionality. Then we get a unit force as the force acting on unit mass to produce unit acceleration.
For example 1 Newton force is force acting on 1 kg mass to get acceleration 1 m/s2
