Colour of the ocean???

answered-by-expert Expert Answer

It's partly reflection of the sky on the ocean surface. But the colour is due to scattering of blue/violet light by water molecules.

When light falls, water molecules preferentially scatter violet/blue light in all directions, same is true about particles in the atmosphere. They also scatter the violet light, hence the blue colour of the sky. Water molecules also scatter it hence the colour of ocean.
