Suppose a group of resistances have a same potential difference across them, then they are said to be in parallel.
and if a group of resistances are connected end to end, and their combination is collectively connected across a potential difference, thn thy are said to be in series.
In short circuit, the resistance in a circuit becomes zero and hence for a given potential, the current increases manyfold.
