Ashok's mother was 3 times as old Ashok 5 years ago. After 5 years she will be twice as old as Ashok. How old is Ashok today?

Let present age of Ashok = x
and present age of mother = y
 
5 years ago
Age of Ashok = x - 5
Age of mother = y - 5
by condititon
3(x - 5) = (y - 5)
3x - y = 10 ...(1)
 
 
5 years after
Age of Ashok = x + 5
Age of mother = y + 5
by condition
2(x + 5) = (y +5)
2x - y = -5 ...(2)
 
Solving equations (1) minus (2)
We get
x = 15 years.
 
Present age of Ashok = 15 years
