Area of triangle ABE = Area of rectangle - (Area of triangle ACE + Area of triangle BDE)
= Area of rectangle - (1/2 x AC x CE + 1/2 x BD x DE)
= AC x CD - 1/2(AC x CE + 1/2 x AC x DE)
= AC x CD - 1/2 x AC(CE + DE)
= AC x CD - 1/2 x AC x CD
= 1/2 x AC x CD

So, the ratio of area of triangle ABE to area of rectangle ABCD = (1/2 x AC x CD)/(AC x CD) = 1/2 = 1:2
