ICSE Class 9 Answered
A solid of density 1600 kg/m3 is found to weigh 0.40 Kgf in air.If 5/8 Volume of
solid is completely immersed in Brine solution of density 1200 Kg/m3, find the
apparent weight of solid in brine. [Take g=10N/Kg]

Expert Answer
Volume V of solid , V = Mass / density = 0.4 / 1600 = 2.5 × 10-4 m3
Apparent weight in liquid = weight in air - loss of weight in liquid
loss of weight in liquid = immersed volume of solid × density of liquid × g
where g is acceleration due to gravity
loss of weight in liquid = ( 5/8) V × 1200 = (5/8) × 2.5 × 10-4 × 1200 × g = 0.1875 kgf
Apparent weight in liquid = 0.4 - 0.1875 = 0.2125 kgf
