A shopkeeper buys a washing machine at a rebate of 30%on the printed price .He spends 400 on transportation of the article .After charging sales tax at the rate of 7% on the printed price,he sells the article for 36000. Find his profit/loss percentage

Let the printed price of the washing machine be Rs. x.
Sales tax 7% of x = begin mathsize 16px style fraction numerator 7 straight x over denominator 100 end fraction end style
Selling Price = begin mathsize 16px style straight x plus fraction numerator 7 straight x over denominator 100 end fraction equals fraction numerator 107 straight x over denominator 100 end fraction end style
Selling price = 36000
begin mathsize 16px style fraction numerator 107 straight x over denominator 100 end fraction equals 36000 end style
begin mathsize 16px style straight x equals 36000 over 107 cross times 100 equals Rs. space 33644.85 almost equal to 33645 end style
Printed price = Rs. 33645
Rebate 30% on printed price = begin mathsize 16px style 33645 cross times 30 over 100 equals Rs. space 10093 end style
Selling Price after rebate = 33645 - 10093 = Rs. 23552
Transportation = Rs. 400
Actual cost price = 23552 + 400 = Rs. 23992
Profit = Printed price - Actual cost price = 33645 - 23992 = Rs. 9653
Profit percentage = begin mathsize 16px style 9653 over 23992 cross times 100 equals 40.234 percent sign end style
