Expert Answer:

A motor boat whose speed is 18km/hr in still water takes 1 hr more to go 24km upstream than to return to the same spot. find the speed of the stream.

Let the speed of stream be x km/h
So upstream speed be 18+x and downstream speed be 18-x
ATQ
24/ (18-x) -24/(18+x) = 1
x2+48x -324 = 0
So we have x = 6 km/h
