(i) if pass axis of p2 makes anngle 90 with pass axis of p1, intensity of emergent light from p2 is zero
(ii) Let p3 is the polaroid placed between p1 and p2 and making angle β with p1.
As per Malu's law, we have intensity emerging from polarid so that polarisation vector makes angle θ with pass axis is I = Iocos2θ
hence initensity of emergent light from p3 is Iocos2β.
intensity of emergent light from p2 = Iocos2β cos2(90-β) = Iocos2β sin2β = Io / 8
cosβ sinβ = (1/2)sin2β = . Hence sin 2β = 0.708 or β = 22.5°
