12 wires each having a resistance of 1 ohm are connected to form a cube. Find the resistance between the 2 corners of the diagonal of one face of the cube.

Expert Answer
Edges labelled as AC are symmetric paths with equal current i1 , but edge AE differ from AC edges and
current i2 flows in AE such that i2 = i - 2×i1 . Hence Electrical potential on C are same.
Due to symmetrical distribution of currents, electrical currents on edges AC and CB are equal.
So, current i1 flowing on AC enters vertx C and current i1 flowing on CB leaves vertex C.
Hence there is no current flow in the edges marked as CD and they can be disconnected.
Fig.(b) shows the resistance network after disconnecting the edges CD.
The circuit shown in fig.(b) is redrawn in Fig.(c) to calculate the equivalent resistance.
Now from fig.(c) , it is easy to calculate the equivalent resistance, so I leave that work to the student.
The answer for equivalent resistance is (3/4) ohms.
