Mass number = number of protons + number of neutrons

In 24/12 Mg there are 12 protons and 12 neutrons, hence the mass number of this isotope is 24.

In 26/12 Mg, there are 12 protons and 14 neutrons, hence the mass number of this isotope is 26.
