Why the british transformed their ruling system to the crown?

The government of the English East India Company had resulted in widespread resentment towards the British. The Company officials were seen as racist, exploitative, greedy and corrupt. They had interfered in the religious affairs of the local population and passed laws that supposedly went against the cultural beliefs of Indians. Also, the Company had allowed the Hindus and Muslims to make common cause against the British over the Enfield rifle issue. This was seen as dangerous and detrimental to the colonial interests of the British Crown. As a result, once the Rebellion of 1857 was suppressed, the power was transferred from the English East India Company to the British Crown.
