Why chances of variations are more in meiosis than mitosis?
Asked by Topperlearning User | 04 Jun, 2014, 01:23: PM
answered-by-expert Expert Answer

Chances of variation are more in meiosis than mitosis because of the following reasons:

  1. The maternal and paternal chromosomes get mixed up during meiosis I.
  2. Synapsis occurs between two homologous chromosomes and genetic exchange takes place between maternal and paternal chromosomes which results in genetic recombination.
