Expert Answer
River Damodar is called the sorrow of Bengal because it brought floods and destruction.
It is now no longer called ‘the sorrow’ because several dams have been constructed across it to control the water. The Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) built as a multipurpose project on the river has decreased the fury of the river.
