Moment of force or Torque is define as product of force and perpendicular distance from fixed point.
Direction of torque is given by right hand thumb rule. You should place your right hand palm along the distance and try to encircled it towards the force. The direction of thumb will give the direction of torque. If the thumb is inside the plane then the body will move in clockwise sense and the value of torque will be taken as negative or vice versa.
