Let mass of metal oxide = 100 gm
 
Mass of oxygen = 20 gm
 
Mass of metal = 100-20 = 80 gm
 
Equivalent weight of oxide can be calulated by using,
 
equals fraction numerator Mass space of space metal space cross times 8 over denominator Mass space of space oxygen end fraction

equals fraction numerator 80 cross times 8 over denominator 20 end fraction

equals 32 space
 
Equivalent weight of oxide is 32
