Particle displacement y = yo sin [ 2 π f t - ( 2 π x / λ ) ]  ...................(1)
 
Particle velocity,  dy/dt  = ( 2 π f yo ) cos[ 2 π f t - ( 2 π x / λ ) ]  ......................(2)
 
maximum velocity  (dy/dt)max = ( 2 π f yo ) = (4 × wave-velocity ) = ( 4 × f × λ ) ...............(3)
 
Hence , we get, λ = ( π yo ) / 2
