When two different waves of same frequency and same amplitude but different phases overlap,
 
total intensity I = I12 + I22 + 2 I1 I2 cosδ  .................(1)
 
where I's are respective intensities of wave and δ is the phase difference.
 
If both waves are in same phase and same intensity, total intensity = 4I2 ...............(2)
 
If both waves are with same intensity but phase difference is 90º, total intensity = 2I2 ...............(3)
 
Ratio of intensities = 4I2 : 2I2 = 2 : 1
