Expert Answer
Let at A, potential be x V and at B potential be 0 V.
Potential at R = x (25/30) V = x (5/6) V ; Potential at S = x (50/60) V = x (5/6)V ; Point A and B are same potential
Potential at M = x (15/30) V = x (1/2) V ; Potential at N = x (30/60) V = x (1/2)V ; Point C and D are same potential
Since R and S are same potential, there will not be any current flow through 10Ω resistor between R and S,
hence it can be removed to calculate effective resistance
Since M and N are same potential, there will not be any current flow through 10Ω resistor between M and N,
hence it can be removed to calculate effective resistance
Hence after removing those unwanted resistors, we see from above figure,
we have two equivalent resistances 30 Ω and 60Ω which are connected in parallel bewteen A and B.
Hence effective resistance between A and B = (30×60)/(30+60) = 20Ω .
