When the body of mass reaches the top most point, we have, T + mg = mv2/L ...................(1)
where T is tension in the string, v is the tangential speed at top most point
Hence T = ( mv2/L ) - mg
if T≥ 0, speed v of the body at top most point should satisfy the condition, v ≥ (gL)1/2 ..............(2)
hence we will take minimum value v = (gL)1/2
Once string is broken, the object travels with initial horizontal velocity (gL)1/2 in gravitational speed.
Time t to reach the ground is calculated from the relation, 2L = (1/2)g t2 or t = (4L/g)1/2
Horizontal range = Horizontal velocity × time = (gL)1/2 × (4L/g)1/2 = 2L
