In hydrogen like atom , energy of orbit that has quantum number n = (- 13.6/n2 ) eV

Hence frequency ν of radiaton that arises due to orbital transition of electron from quantum number n to (n-1) is

proportional to  [ 1/(n-1)2   -  1/n2 ] ;

Hence we get  ν =  k (2n-1) / [ n2 (n-1)2 ]  ................. (1)

where k is constant.  when n->∞ , we have (2n-1) ≈ 2n  and (n-1)≈ n

Using these approximations, we get ν ≈ k (2n) / n4 = k [ 2/n3 ]
