Let P be the power radiated (i.e. energy per second ) by sun.

Received power on unit area of earth surface ( neglecting atmospheric attenuation ) = P/(4πr2 )= 1200 W/m2

where r is the sun-to-earth distance

Hence Radiated power from sun  P = 1200 × 4π × ( 1.5 × 1011 )2

Energy lost in one day = power × time = 1200 × 4π × ( 1.5 × 1011 )2 × 86400  J

By using the relation E = Δm c2 , where Δm is mass converted to energy and c is speed of light,

we get mass Δm lost by sun in one day as,  Δm = [ 1200 × 4π × ( 1.5 × 1011 )2 × 86400  J ] / ( 9 × 1016 ) = 3.26 × 1014 kg
