Upward thrust given by liquid to floating solid = V×(ρl - ρs )×g
where V is immersed volume of solid, ρl is liquid density, ρs is solid density and g is acceleration due to gravity
When the wooden block is immersed in oil and water, then uward thrust due to oil and water is balanced by weight of wooden block.
Let A is cross section area of wooden block.
Let density of wooden block is ρs , density of oil is ρoil and density of water is ρw
Upward thrust given by oil and water :- 6×10-2 × A × (ρoil - ρs ) × g + 4×10-2 × A × (ρw - ρs ) × g ................(1)
weight of wooden block :- 10×10-2 × A × ρs × g ........................(2)
by equating (1) and (2), we get, 10× ρs = 6× (ρoil - ρs ) + 4× (ρw - ρs ) ..........(3)
from eqn. (3), we get density of wooden block, ρs = 380 kg/m3
