If λ is decay constant of radioactive element, the mean life τ of this radioactive element is given by,
τ = 1/λ = T1/2 / 0.693 = 1.443 T1/2 ......................(1)
where T1/2 is half-life of radioactive element.
Hence mean life is greater than half life.
Hence if half-life of X equals to mean-life of Y, then half-life of Y is less than half-life of X .
Hence Y will decay faster than X
