If power level of reactor is 200 MW, then electrical energy Eel produced in one day ( 86400 s) = 200 × 106 × 86400 J
 
If efficiency is 25% , then thermal energy Eth produced in one day is given by
 
Eth = 200 × 106 × 86400 × (100/25) = 6.912 × 1013 J .........................(1)
 
Energy released per fusion reaction is calculated by mass difference between 2 deuterium nucleus and one Helium nucleus.
 
mass difference Δm in amu = (2×2.0141) - 4.0026 = 0.0256 amu
 
energy produced per fusion reaction = Δm c2 = 0.0256 × 1.673 × 10-27 × 9 × 1016 J  = 3.85 × 10-12 J
 
if (2×2.0141) amu of deuterium gives 3.85 × 10-12 J ,
 
then energy E released by 1 gm of deuterium in fusion reaction is given by, 
 
E = ( 3.85 × 10-12 ) / ( 2×2.0141×1.673 × 10-24 ) = 5.713 × 1011 J  .........................(2)
 
From eqn.(1) and eqn.(2), we get mass m of deuterium per day for 200 MW reactor as, 
 
m =  Eth / E = 6.912 × 1013 / ( 5.713 × 1011 ) ≈ 121 gm
