Expert Answer
1) observation of the electrolysis of copper sulphate solutions using Platinum electrodes:
The blue colour of Cu2+ ions in the electrolyte solution fades due to decrease in Cu2+ ions and finally the solution becomes colourless as soon as Cu2+ ions are finished. Reddish brown copper is deposited at cathode and oxygen gas is liberated at the anode.
2)1) observation of the electrolysis of copper sulphate solutions using copper electrodes:
Reddish brown copper is deposited at cathode and no product formed at the anode because copper anode keep dissolving during the reaction, as Cu2+ ions are formed., the blue colour of copper sulphate solution does not fade.
