Initially stable two particles X and Y start moving towards each other under mutual attraction.If at one time the velocity of X and Y v and 2v respectively.What will be the centre of mass of the system?

Let the centre of mass (CM) be at origin of coordinate system and each particle X and Y are in x-axis
If rx and -ry are respective x-coordinates of particle X and Y , then we have
mx rx - my ry = 0 ........................(1)
when they approach each other , if their respective velocities are v and 2v,
then we have, mx v - my 2v = 0 ..............(2)
[ CM will not move ]
from eqn.(2), we get, mx = 2 my ............(3)
using the equation (3) , if we substitute mx in eqn.(1), we get , rx = ry / 2
