Figure shows the flag staff BC standing on a tower of height AB .
Angle of elevation from point D to bottom of flag staff B is 45° and Angle of elevation from point D to top of flag C is 75° .
Let h be the height of tower , i.e. AB = h . Let H be the height of flag staff , i.e. BC = H
tan45 = h/AD = 1
Hence AD = h .
tan75 = ( H+h ) / AD = ( H + h ) h = 1 + (H/h) = 3.732
( H / h = 2.732 )
