How is energy transformed in thermal power plant?

Expert Answer
Thermal energy is used to boil water and steam is produced at high pressure. The high pressure steam rotates a turbine and this turbine axil is connected to a rotating coil(armature) of AC generator. (In some cases, turbine rotates the magnet and armature is stationary). When armature is rotated in a magnetic field inside AC generator, emf is induced in armature coil due to electro magenetic induction. Thus electrical energy is produced. Thermal energy is utilised to get mechanical energy, then mechanical energy is converted into electrical energy.
