Yes, the life of farmers and herders who supplied food to the Harappan cities was different from that of the farmers and hearders we read about in chapter 2 because:
  • Farmers who supplied food to the Harappan cities lived a settled life as they were engaged in farming activities. While hunters and gatherers in chapter 2 did not indulge in farming. They hunted animals and moved from place to place.
  • Farmers and herders mostly depended on agriculture and domestication of animals for their livelihood while as hunter-gathers in chapter 2 depended on hunting of wild animals and plants.
  • Farmers who supplied food to the Harappan cities lived in huts ad thatched houses while herders and hunters in chapter 2 mostly lived in caves.
