answered-by-expert Expert Answer
The magnitude of dispalcement of a particle in motion for a given time is the shortest distance between the initial and final position of the particle in that time.
The magnitude is always less than or equal to the distance travelled by an object. That is total path length is greater than the magnitude of displacement.
If the motion of the particle is in one dimension i.e., along along a straight line, then the magnitude of displacement is equal to the total path lenght travelled by the object in the given time.
