ABCD is a quadrilateral and BD is one of its diagonals as shown in the figure. DC= 5 cm, Altitude=10 cm. Show that ABCD is a parallelogram. Find its area.

Diagonal BD intersects AB and CD such that
CDB = ABD = 90o
 AB  DC, and AB = DC = 5 units.
(One pair of sides of quadrilateral ABCD is equal and parallel.)                        
ABCD is a parallelogram
Area of parallelogram = base x corresponding altitude
                                    = 5 x 10 = 50 sq. units
Hence area of parallelogram = 50 sq. units
