AB is a string under tension with one end (say B) connected to a light ring as shown below (in the figure).  The string can move up and down freely through a vertical rod.  An upward kink is reflected back as an upward kink as if there is no opposition at all.  What do you conclude?

When a wave suffers reflection at the surface of a rarer medium, it is reflected back without any change of phase.
