Q: Find the value of k for the following quadratic equation so that it has two real and equal roots. 5x2 - 2kx + 20 = 0
Solution:
The quadratic equation will have real and equal roots if the discriminant is zero.
i.e. b2 - 4ac = 0
i.e. (-2k)2 - 4 * 5 * 20 = 0
i.e. 4k2 = 400
i.e. k = -10, 10
