if one of the zeroes of quadratic polynomial F(x) = 4x² - 8kx - 9 is equal in magnitude but opposite in sign, find K

Expert Answer
4 x2 - 8kx - 9 = 0
By dividing above equation by 4, we get
x2 - 2 k x - (9/4) = 0 ...................... (1)
If α and β are roots of above equation, then we get
x2 + ( α + β ) x + α β = 0 ..............(2)
If roots are equal in magnitude and opposite in sign , then ( α + β ) = 0
By comparing eqn.(1) and (2) , we get
( α + β ) = - 2 k x = 0
Hence k = 0
