Why weathering of rocks is important in the formation of soil

Rocks are broken down into soil by the process of weathering. Weathering is disintegration and decomposition of rocks and minerals over a period of time. Weathering breaks down and loosens the surface minerals of rock so they can be transported away by agents of erosion such as water, wind and ice.Weathering can be brought about by physical, chemical or biological factors.
