Why in photoelectric effect collision between electron and photon is inelastic type?

Collision is classified as inelastic, if total kinetic energy before collision and the total kinetic energy after collision are not same,
i.e., total kinetic energy is not conserved.
In Photo electric effect, part of photon energy that is equal to binding energy of electron is utilised to knock out the electron
that is bound to atom. Remaining energy is transfered to the released electron that appears as kinetic energy of photo electron.
Hence total kinetic energy is not conserved in photo electric process and the collsion is inelastic
