Why does Corpus Luteum is yellowish in colour?

The yellow color of corpus luteum is due to its concentration of certain carotenoids, especially lutein. The corpus luteum is made up of lutein cells which develop immediately following ovulation, when yellow pigment and lipids accumulate within the granulosa cells lining the follicle.
