Why butane has only two isomers ?
Asked by Disha Zanwar | 13 Mar, 2013, 03:51: PM
Butane has only two isomers since there are only two different ways in which the 4 carbon atoms can be joined to form two different structures with same molecular formula. In first, all the four carbon atoms are joined in a continous straight chain to give n-butane and in other, three carbon atoms are arranged in a straight chain and fourth carbon is joined in the side chain as a branch to give isobutane.
