Expert Answer
A plant that requires a long period of darkness, is termed a "short day" (long night) plant. Short-day plants form flowers only when day length is less than about 12 hours
Plants grow toward sunlight because the red light from the sun converts the chromoprotein into the active form (Pfr), which triggers plant growth. Plants in shade show slow growth because the inactive form (Pr) is produced. If seeds sense light using the phytochrome system, they will germinate.
So, the correct answer is option (1), Pr/pfr is greater than 1.
