what is the ratio of T1/T2 in second orbit of hydrogen atom to third orbit of He+ ion

Dear Student,

According to Bohr’s theory, for the unielectron atom or ion,

Time period ‘T’ of revolution = n3 / Z2

Where,

n = orbit in which the electron is revolving

Z = atomic number of the element

Time period ‘T1’ for second orbit (n1=2) of hydrogen atom = 23 / 12 = 8 / 1

Time period ‘T2’ for third orbit (n2 = 3) of He+ ion = 33 / 22 = 27 / 4

Thus,

T1 / T2 = (8 / 1) × (4 / 27) = 32 / 27

Hence, T1 / T2 =  32 / 27
