what is the meaning of inverse

In mathematics, a multiplicative inverse for a number, is a number which when multiplied with yields the multiplicative identity 1
For example:
The multiplicative inverse of 5 is 1/5
5 x 1/5 = 1
An additive inverse for a number, is a number which when added with yields the additive identity 0.
For example: Additive identity of 1 is -1
i.e. 1 + -1 = 0
