Expert Answer
Sound is a mechanical disturbance of particles from a state of equilibrium that propagates through an elastic material medium.
 
For example, mechanical disturbance produced in air such as vibration of thin wires , vibration of air colums in tubes ,
human speech etc produces pressure fluctuations in longitudinal directions and this fluctuations propagate in air .
 
This propagated pressure fluctuations in air is sensed by our ear to feel the sound
