Expert Answer

The main drawbacks are given below :

  1. He could not explain properly the distribution of the electrons around the nucleus.
  2. An electron revolving in circular orbit is an example of accelerated motion. As per classical physics, a particle in accelerated motion must radiate energy. Consequently energy of electron is goes on decreasing and ultimately falls into nucleus. Hence he couldn't explain the stability of the atom .
  3. According to it we should obtain radiation of all possible wavelengths whereas in actual practice atomic spectrum is line spectrum. He couldn't explain the origin of line spectrum.
