CBSE Class 10 Answered
Verify that the numbers given alongside of the cubic polynomials below are their zeroes. Also verify the relationship between the zeroes and the coefficients in each case.
x3 - 10x2- 53x – 42 ; 1, 14, -3.

p(x) = x3 - 10x2- 53x – 42
p(-1) = (-1)3 - 10×(-1)2 - 53×(-1) - 42 = 0
Similarly we can find p(14) and p(-3) we get both are zero.
Let α = -1, β = 14 and γ = -3
Verifying
α + β + γ = -1 + 14 - 3 = 10 = -b/a
Similarly verify for αβ + βγ + αγ = c/a and αβγ = -d/a
NOTE : Value of x should be -1 instead of 1 as x = -1 is zero of a given polynomial.
