State three characteristics of a musical sound.

(i) Loudness is the sensation produced in the ear which enables to distinguish between a loud and faint sound. It depends upon the intensity of sound and sensitiveness of ear. It is measured in terms of bel.
(ii) Pitch of sound is that subjective property which ditinguishes a sharp sound from a dull one. It depends upon the frequency of the source.
(iii) Quality is that subjective characteristic of sound which enables us to distinguish between two sounds of the same loudness and same pitch but emitted from two different sources. It depends upon the waveforms which is determined by the number of overtones present and their respective intensities.
